Why have a blog?
Lots of people ask why I have this thing, so here’s the deal…
The whole “myname.com” thing has changed over the years, and it’s never really strayed away from being self-serving. It started as a way to promote myself & show my portfolio, then to help me get a job as a web developer, and now I’m using it to bounce thoughts around. There have been many gaps in-between these stages where the site has sat dormant, while I thought of a million things I could do to make it less ego-centric. As you can imagine, this isn’t really moving away from that.
The simple answer is this: I write for myself. I enjoy learning, and I have more fun when I understand what’s happening in the world. The process of writing – and more importantly, publishing – forces me to consider an audience. It’s about imagining a perspective other than my own. Having the ubiquitous audience of the internet provides the ultimate potential response. Encouraging myself to consider an idea from as many perspectives as I can helps me develop my thoughts. It’s less about writing & publishing, and more about thinking.
Too much of what we think about gets lost from day to day. The internet is changing everything about our worlds, and it’s only going to get faster and more complicated.
So if I’m going to be a part of this technology culture, I might as well dive in head first. This site is my way of doing that. Maybe I’ll learn to write.
- UPDATE -
I’ve separated this site into two main sections: coherence & incoherence. The reason for this is simple: I need a place to talk about stupidity. Also, if this website is about myself, it can’t be all serious. Hell… not a day goes by where I don’t think about that video of a two legged dog.
- UPDATE… AGAIN -
I’ve re-designed the site again, and the incoherence section is gone. Sorry. It’s still available, just not featured. I suppose there WAS a limit to the number of times I could watch that video of a two legged dog.

I didn’t know you had this. Pretty sweet. I’ve started one too for pretty much the same reasons.

Thanks for the support, everyone.
Hello other Charles Gallant. Someday, we will meet, and fight to the death. There can be only one. Thanks for stopping by, though.
